Preadoption Parent Education

We are here to help you grow your family by adopting a child through the child welfare system in the State of Florida.

You decided to expand your family through adoption, specifically by adopting a child through the child welfare system.  You did your research and learned you must complete a preadoption education course as the first step. You made some calls and …

  • you were told there was a waitlist.

  • you were invited to an agency’s adoption orientation but were told you did not fit the “needed profile” of an adoptive parent.

  • you learn day/time the preadoption education course is offered does not work with your schedule.

The Model Approach to Partnerships in Parenting (MAPP) is one of the three Department approved adoptive parent training programs for the State of Florida.  MAPP is an internationally used training approach that ensures attendees experience an effective, integrated learning experience linking not only trauma-informed training content, but professional assessment, skills-based learning and peer support.

Deciding Together (DT) MAPP is the preadoption education program provided by Family Tyes. This specific MAPP program provides a one on one professional and family meeting series, in a more flexible schedule.

DT MAPP is:

  • provided in the comfort of your own home.

  • designed with your schedule in mind.

  • tailored to your needs.

  • seven meetings scheduled over seven, or more, weeks time.

This is preadoption education on your terms and at your convenience!

While preadoption education classes are available through your local child welfare agency free of charge, they are in a "one size fits all" format. Most families are not one dimensional; most families have a personality and style unique to themselves.  Family Tyes offers personalized preadoption classes on your time schedule and tailors it for your family so upon completion you feel prepared to parent a child who has experienced trauma, abuse and neglect.

  • be prepared to partner with the child’s foster family and child support team to ensure partnership between all involved in the child’s life.

  • gain the knowledge and critical skills to support healing for children who have experienced trauma in previous living situations.

  • have the opportunity to make mutual decisions about your readiness for providing trust-based care for a child.

Remember, this learning takes place in the comfort of your own home and on your schedule!

There is NO:

  • spending pointless time fighting traffic to get to a destination.

  • rearranging your schedule (work, vacations, time at home) to attend classes.

  • pressure to attend every class without room for being sick or overwhelmed with other life situations.

  • group work. No getting to “know your neighbor” or sharing out loud in front of a group of strangers.
